Gravelistaa!
The gravel trend has even reached footbikes. But how should we approach this? What makes a gravel footbike a gravel footbike? In what ways should we follow the cycling model?
A gravel bike is defined by a number of characteristics, and it might actually be easier to say what it isn’t rather than what it is. It’s not a road bike, even though it looks like one; it’s not a mountain bike, even though it has similar tires and technology; it’s not a cyclocross bike, even though the terrain is similar; and it’s definitely not a city bike, even though it’s often loaded down with even more gear.
A footbike is defined primarily by its ground clearance, so a compromise between a road and off-road footbike is a natural fit. Add to that modern disc brakes, a bag mount, comfortable handlebars, nice and wide rims, and 35–40 mm-wide tires. How have manufacturers approached this?
